Maths and Me Testimonials

We spoke to Laura Grace from Scoil Ailbhe in Thurles and she shared with us what she loves about Maths and Me.

Maths and Me has been an excellent resource that has not just promised the ‘low threshold, high ceiling’ environment that the Primary Maths Curriculum aims for, it has embedded it into our classrooms. 

Maths & Me has improved standardised test scores at all levels as well as creating a more inclusive, interactive and accessible learning experience for pupils of all ages.

It’s really really well structured and you would know that it’s been put together by teachers and so we’ve used it in the three classes: Juniors, Seniors and First. Juniors and Seniors are very often on a similar topic or the same topic at the same time…

…Having three classes and three levels, there are lots of planning and materials, the materials are excellent. You can download, you can tick off what’s there. It’s very concise. You can add to it. You can add and subtract. It’s not totally prescriptive. You can use what you want to use and tick that off or you can add in bits that were tricky or you’re going to come back to. It’s the type of planning that feels more meaningful because it’s really reflecting what you see in the classroom or how the children are engaging with the materials.

I really like Maths and Me because I felt it was a more condensed version of what the other series that we were using and I feel like it’s very much correlated with the new maths curriculum and I feel it’s really visual there’s lots of games there and lots of really lovely ideas for us to to use in order to teach rather than it being constant bookwork and trying to get through the book…

There’s also like fantastic videos there and games for the children to play and things like that and I really like the online platform.

We had a look at a few schemes as a team… 

And of all of them, the Maths and Me seemed to tick all the boxes for what we need as a school. Really well laid out plans but what really made us lean towards it was that it gives all the resources needed to teach the lesson as per the new curriculum.

Other ones didn’t exactly make that element of it very clear so we went with Edco Maths and Me simply because it seemed to be the most in line with what the new curriculum states.
